Carol Keller:
I'm trying to put together a group of people interested in boccia. In case you are unfamiliar with it, boccia is a game adapted from Italian lawn bowling. It is also sometimes spelled bocce. For disabled sports
competition, the game is played indoors using leather balls that are about tennis ball size. In order to be
eligible, competitors must unable to use a coordinated overhand toss with follow through. There are divisions for those whose disabilities stem from CP or head injuries as well as for other disabilities with arm weakness. There is a ramp division for those unable to coordinate releasing and throwing a ball. Cathy and Jim Drobney from Topeka are willing to come down and do some instruction and coaching. I'd like to try to get a group together to play at least once a month.
Interested people can contact me.
Thanks,
Carol Keller

WSI Activities:
Handcycling Program:
Interested in Handcycling? Riding a bike powered by your arms can be tremendous fun and a great sense of freedom. Whether you are interested in racing, recreation, or just fitness, handcycling has plenty to offer. We have several members that ride handcycles regularly. WSI organizes clinics and events for handcycling several times a year.
Can't make an event or one is not coming up soon? We can set up a individual test ride. Wheelchair Sports, Inc. has purchased a New XLT Gold Handcycle! This handcycle is used for WSI clinics, member use at events, individual test rides (supervised), and member recreational use (based on availability, events, clinics, and test rides have 1st priority). Want to try the new Gold? It is one awesome ride into freedom and fun.
If your organization (rehab, school, hospital, etc) are interested in a presentation on adaptive cycling for those with disabilities or people who work with the disabled population, we might be able to help.

Wheelchair Hockey: A sport that occurs during the winter months. This is a highly competitive sport that encourages team play and cooperation. We currently play on hardwood floors, rather than ice, because no costly special equipment is needed.
Wheelchair Tennis: Played by the same rules as able-bodied tennis, except that a wheelchair player gets two bounces to return the ball instead of one. Wheelchair tennis is one the few sports where a disabled person can effectively compete with able-bodied players. We are currently hosting a USTA sanctioned wheelchair tennis tournament each summer.
Other: There are a variety of other sporting opportunities including; bowling, water skiing, snow skiing, billiards &
horseback riding.
If there is a sport or activity that you would like to see Wheelchair Sports, Inc. become involved with please contact us.
