Ravi Bishnoi, the young leg-spinner from India, has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the world’s No.1 T20I bowler in the latest ICC rankings. Bishnoi, who made his international debut in the recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka, took 10 wickets in three matches at an average of 9.40 and an economy of 5.85. He was instrumental in India’s 2-1 series win, as he claimed four wickets in the final match to help India defend 164.
Bishnoi, who rose to fame with his impressive performances in the 2020 U-19 World Cup, where he was the leading wicket-taker with 17 scalps, said that he was overjoyed with his achievement and thanked his teammates and coaches for their support.
“It feels out of the world to be the No.1 T20I bowler in the world. I never expected this to happen so soon in my career. I am very happy and grateful to God, my family, my teammates and my coaches for their guidance and encouragement. This is just the beginning and I want to keep working hard and improving my skills,”
Bishnoi said in an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz.
Bishnoi, who hails from Rajasthan, said that he idolizes former India leg-spinner Anil Kumble and tries to learn from him. He also revealed that he received valuable tips from current India coach Rahul Dravid, who mentored him during the U-19 World Cup and the Sri Lanka tour.
“Anil Kumble sir is my role model and I watch his videos and try to emulate his bowling style. He has been very supportive and helpful whenever I have interacted with him. He always motivates me and gives me confidence. Rahul Dravid sir is also a great mentor and he has taught me a lot about the game and how to handle pressure situations. He always tells me to bowl with a positive mindset and back my strengths,” Bishnoi said.
Bishnoi, who also plays for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), said that he is looking forward to the second phase of the tournament, which will resume in the UAE from September 19. He said that he wants to continue his good form and help his team qualify for the playoffs. “I am very excited for the IPL and I hope to perform well for my team. We are in a good position in the points table and we have a balanced squad. I want to contribute with the ball and also with the bat if needed. My aim is to help my team win the trophy,” Bishnoi said.
